Since opening in 1947 on Seymour Street the Penthouse Night Club has been a large attraction and landmark in Vancouver. Although the Pent house is not particularly old it has had a remarkable tale of the past of Vancouver. For all 66 years of business the venue has been owned and managed by the Filippone family. The establishment has catered to the likes of Frank Sinatra, Louis Armstrong, Ella Fitzgerald, Ben Afflect, not to name many other famous and not so famous average-joes.
The Penthouse is now part of Vancouver walking tours due to its risque nightlife during Prohibitions times. During the 50's many were drawn for the home-style Italian Buffet, Cabaret shows, liquor (even though this was during prohibition) and the main act offered. The Pent house can also be explored for its secret rooms, catwalks, and hollow tables that were used to store booze. The Penthouse was the hottest spot in town back in the day, and would commonly go through police raids so mainly like tricks were created by the 3 original brothers who opened the Penthouse including secret exists and upstairs rooms that could become easily barricaded. Like mainly other famous building in the downtown core that were used for shows, such as the Commodore and the Vogue, not much has changed inside the Penthouse. There is still the main floor, private party rooms, secret back exists for celebrity to enter and exit as they please, and places to hid alcohol when in a pinch.
Although many Vancouverites may never go to the Penthouse it is still known by many for its History and risque nature that has made it the landmark that it is today.
